FrontWing / Telemetry fundamentals

What does Formula 1 telemetry tell you?

Telemetry is a set of measurements recorded through a lap. A useful comparison connects those measurements to distance around the circuit and the conditions in which each lap happened.

Start with speed, throttle and braking

A speed trace shows how a car accelerates, slows and carries speed through corners. Compare throttle application and braking alongside speed to understand where two laps begin to diverge. A faster straight can reflect a different corner exit, DRS use, a tow or setup; it does not prove one cause on its own.

Read the lap delta in context

A time delta shows accumulated gain or loss relative to another lap. Align the laps by distance and inspect where that difference changes. Check whether you are comparing the same session, similar tyre conditions and representative laps before drawing conclusions.

Keep the missing context visible

Tyre age, compound, fuel load, traffic, weather and track evolution can affect a comparison. Public data has limitations, and missing or interpolated samples can make a trace look more precise than it is. Treat a chart as evidence to examine, rather than a complete explanation.

Explore it in FrontWing

FrontWing connects telemetry questions, supporting evidence and visual comparison. Try a specific question about a driver, lap or stint in the briefing room, or compare laps in Ghost Battle.
